Yes. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can diagnose illness, order investigations and prescribe medication, as well as recommend therapy. A clinical psychologist provides psychological testing and therapy but does not prescribe. Many patients need both.

For most conditions, no. Medication is usually continued for a defined period after recovery and then reduced gradually under supervision. A few conditions — bipolar disorder and schizophrenia in particular — often do need long-term treatment to prevent relapse, and that will be explained to you honestly rather than avoided.
Antidepressants and antipsychotics are not habit-forming. A small group of medicines used for anxiety and sleep can cause dependence if taken for long periods, which is exactly why they are prescribed for short courses with a plan to stop.
Yes — children, adolescents, adults and elderly patients are all seen. Assessment of a child involves parents and often school reports.
