About the doctor

Qualified psychiatric care, without the stigma

Dr. Sushovan Roy is a consultant psychiatrist practising at Kaberi Health Point, Subhas Pally, Siliguri, Siliguri. After MBBS and MD in Psychiatry, his practice has been built around one problem specific to this region: families here wait years before seeing a psychiatrist, and often see three or four unqualified practitioners first.

The approach is deliberately plain. Listen properly. Say what the diagnosis is and what it is not. Prescribe the smallest amount of medication that will actually work, and explain what each tablet does. Bring the family in, because recovery at home depends on them understanding the illness too.

MBBS, MD (Psychiatry)

A fully qualified specialist, not a counsellor or a general practitioner.

Kept confidential

Records and consultations stay private. Nothing is shared without your consent.

Minimum effective medication

The lowest dose that works, with a plan for reducing it when you are stable.

Family included

Relatives are taught how to help, so home support does not undo the treatment.

How a consultation works

Four steps, no online forms

Most people who put off seeing a psychiatrist do it because they do not know what will happen in the room. Here is exactly what happens.

Call or send a WhatsApp message

Ring 7762955134 or message on WhatsApp. You will be given a time, usually the same day or the next. There is no form to fill and no account to create.

A proper assessment, not three minutes

History, examination, and blood tests where a physical cause needs ruling out — thyroid, B12 and sugar problems all imitate psychiatric illness. Bring any old prescriptions and reports you have.

The diagnosis explained to you

In Bengali, Hindi or English, in plain words, along with what each medicine is for and what it will cost. You can ask anything. Family members can be part of this discussion if you want.

Follow-up until you are well

A review date is fixed before you leave. Doses are adjusted as you improve, and medication is tapered when you are stable — treatment is not meant to go on indefinitely by default.

Why patients come here

What makes the difference is usually time

Enough time to be heard

Psychiatric diagnosis depends almost entirely on history. A rushed consultation produces a wrong diagnosis.

Your own language

Bengali, Hindi or English. Symptoms described in a borrowed language get mistranslated and misdiagnosed.

Costs said out loud

Fees and the monthly cost of medication are discussed openly, and cheaper equivalents are used where they exist.

Open till 10 PM, all week

Including Sundays — so nobody has to explain a mid-week absence to their employer.

Current treatment guidelines

Treatment follows established psychiatric evidence, not habit or whatever the last representative was promoting.

No moralising

Nobody here will tell you that depression is a lack of willpower or that addiction is a character defect.

What patients say

The reviews are on Google, where you can check them yourself

This site does not print testimonials. Anyone can type a glowing quote into their own website — it proves nothing. What is worth reading is what patients have written on the Google Business Profile, under their own names, where the clinic cannot edit or delete them.

Common questions

Before you call

Check three things. First, the qualification — a psychiatrist holds MBBS plus MD or DPM in psychiatry and is registered with the state medical council; a counsellor or psychologist is a different, non-prescribing role. Second, whether you are given enough time to describe the problem properly. Third, whether the diagnosis and the reason for each medicine are explained to you in a language you understand. You are entitled to ask all three.

Walk-in patients are seen. Calling 7762955134 first is better, because you will be given a time and will not sit waiting.

Every day, including Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Late-evening slots exist specifically for people who cannot take leave from work.

Not from this clinic. Consultations and records are confidential. Nothing is shared with family, employer or anyone else without your consent, other than in the rare situations where the law requires it — for example a serious risk to life.

Bengali, Hindi or English. Describing symptoms in the language you think in makes a real difference to the accuracy of a psychiatric diagnosis.

Yes. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can diagnose illness, order investigations and prescribe medication, as well as recommend therapy. A clinical psychologist provides psychological testing and therapy but does not prescribe. Many patients need both.
